Marcia came to The Canyons first as an employee, working in sales for KB Home. And then in 2021 she bought a paired home in the First Light neighborhood — breaking what she describes as the #1 rule: never buy a home in the community where you sell. “I just wanted to be here so badly,” she laughs.

What resonated with you so much?
The Canyons was brand new at that point, and the pool was just a picture. But after a few visits to the info center, seeing what the amenities were going to be and meeting the clientele, I was more than sold. I also liked the idea of a paired ranch home for low maintenance and no stairs.

Have the amenities shaped up the way you expected?
Yes. The feel is very high end. The pool is exactly, if not more than, what I pictured. I use the gym and the trails all the time when I’m walking the dog. And when my grandkids are over they use the parks, pools and trails. And they love Canyon House — they make the best burgers. The food service is incredible here. I probably go to Canyon House once a week for dinner. It’s like living at a resort.

What do you think of the location?
I love it. I can get right on I-25, but it’s not close enough to hear it. It’s the best of both worlds. It’s so convenient. I can easily get to Colorado Springs, downtown Parker, and Park Meadows mall is really close. For dinner I might go to Castle Rock, which is a really cute, fun town.

How would you describe the vibe of The Canyons?
This may sound funny, but it makes me think of Mayberry. It’s like an old-fashioned community. People talk to people here and help each other out. If you leave your garage door open, your neighbors will call you. I’m single and I walk everywhere. It feels incredibly safe.

What else feels different about The Canyons?
It’s not a sea of rooftops. There’s more open space and the terrain creates the opportunity for homes to be laid out proportionately. You’re not on top of each other, so you can really take that deep breath when you come home.
