How to Set Your Backyard for the Perfect Summer Evening

The sky turns pink along the canyon ridge, and the hills create a scenic silhouette. Evenings in Castle Pines cool down just enough after sunset that you reach for a light layer and head outside. It makes the backyard the right place to be. Whether you’re setting up for dinner outside or a comfortable night to wind down, here’s how to make the most of it.

Start With a Space to Gather

A good outdoor space starts with the surface. The wide paver patio in the Stonehaven plan is a good example of what a solid foundation does for a backyard. From there, a sectional or a pair of lounge chairs with a coffee table gives you somewhere to pour a drink, put your feet up, and catch up with your loved ones.

Make It a Place to Eat

Dinner outside changes the pace of an evening. Your covered deck in the Traditions plan gives you enough space to make outdoor dining a regular habit — a proper table, chairs for everyone, and a grill close enough that delicious smells reach you before dinner does. Think skirt steak, grilled zucchini, and a simple herb salad on the table with a cool breeze coming in off the canyon, and a few glowing lanterns after the sun goes down.

Leave Room for the Kids

A backyard that works for a summer evening needs to work for everyone — especially those who have a hard time sitting still. The open lawn in the Emerson plan gives kids room to roam while dinner is cooking. There’s enough space for lawn games!

Think About the Light

Lighting lets you use your backyard into the evening! The covered deck in the Haven plan deserves deep sofas, layered pillows, an outdoor rug, string lights along the ceiling. Add a strand or two and a few candles on the coffee table, and the space goes from merely comfortable to somewhere you’d love to hang out when the sun goes down.

Let the Setting Do the Work

At The Canyons™, your backyard stays beautiful into twilight. In many homes, the open landscape stretches out past the fence line into the hills, and the elevation means the last daylight hits differently here than it does closer to the city. A seating area and some low maintenance landscaping is often all a backyard here needs to look and function beautifully.
